How to Get a Rover in No Man's Sky
No Man's Sky: Where To Get All The Exocraft And What They're Used For
No Man's Sky is all about exploring hundreds of planets. Exocraft help you do so with more efficiency and, as a bonus, they are incredibly fun to use.
No Man's Sky is all about exploration, and the various Exocraft enable the player to explore planets with ease. Different Exocraft have different abilities and there are a total of six in the game, unlocked through Blueprints.
The tech installed on Exocraft can scan for resources, find hidden locations, and even engage in combat with some angry aliens or some of the more aggressive alien plantlife. Here's how to get all the Exocraft and what they're best used for.
Updated June 16, 2021 by Harry Alston:With the new Prisms update recently out for No Man's Sky, there's never been a better time to get out and explore the planets of No Man's Sky with the Exocraft.
We've updated this list to include some more information on how to acquire all of the Exocraft in the game, as well as some more tips and tricks on how to make the most out of these planet-traversing vehicles.
How To Get A Geobay In No Man's Sky
The Geobay is necessary to get access to any Exocraft in the game. To build any type of Geobay (the Exocraft require different types) you need to get a blueprint and the necessary crafting materials. The blueprints are acquired via the Exocraft Terminal or in the Space Anomaly's research room.
The Roamer
This is the first Exocraft you get access to as a player in No Man's Sky. Its Geobay is the requirement for all the other Exocraft, as well. The Roamer is a medium-sized vehicle with 28 available slots in its inventory, able to cross rugged terrain and adapt to pretty much any situation. The Roamer is basically considered a stepping stone to the larger, more interesting Exocraft, which all have more specific uses than the Roamer.
How to get a Roamer:
- A Geobay blueprint, purchased at the Space Anomaly (at the Construction Research Terminal for 10 Salvaged Data) or completing missions at the Base Computer
- The required crafting materials: Metal Platings, Ion Batteries, and Paraffiniumused to build the Geobay on the planet you're currently on
You can upgrade and chop and change the Roamer with a lot of different options, including a Mounted Cannon, Drift Suspension (for that Fast and Furious space vibe), and an Air Filtration unit that can protect the driver from Toxic environments. You can find upgrades at the tech merchants onboard Space Stations.
Tips for the Roamer:
- Thanks to the large inventory size of the Roamer, you can attach a lot of upgrade modules without sacrificing space for other items.
- It's recommended that you attach all the Environmental Protection upgrades so that you can use the Roamer on any planet.
- The Roamer can be used underwater, although it's pretty slow.
- The Roamer can also be customized using the Geobay terminal. You can change its primary color, accent color, as well as specific areas like the Bonnet or Boost Module.
The Nomad
The Nomad is a light Exocraft all about speed. It's much lighter than the Roamer and has fewer slots, down to 16. However, the Nomad is a rapid little car, so quick, in fact, that it can hover over water with enough speed.
How to get a Nomad:
- Purchase the Nomad Geobay Blueprint from the Construction Research Terminal on the Space Anomaly.
- It costs 10 Salvaged Data.
- You can also complete missions for your own Exocraft technician to unlock the Blueprint, but it's much quicker just to buy the Blueprint outright.
- The Geobay requires Metal Plating, Ion Batteries, and Paraffinium to construct on the planet.
Its agility and speed mean it's the Exocraft of choice for those who like to have races with their space pals. The practical use of the Nomad is ideal for those who like to travel between portals quickly, easily one of the quickest ways to get around in No Man's Sky. With a maximized scanner installed it's also the ideal Recon vehicle.
Tips for the Nomad:
- The Nomad is the only Exocraft that travels over water.
- It also handles cliffs, mountains, and other difficult obstacles very well.
- You should opt for either Scanner or Suspension upgrades (scanner for recon, suspension for exploration and fast travel).
- There aren't enough upgrade slots for all environmental hazard protection upgrades, you should only take two.
- Go for either the mining laser or mounted cannon, then add additional upgrades for each.
The Pilgrim
The Pilgrim is a two-wheeled vehicle, basically a motorbike. It's another light Exocraft, just like the Nomad, and is the fastest Exocraft over land available in the game, especially with maxed-out stats. Unlike the Nomad, it doesn't deal well with water, which slows it to a crawl. It only has 16 inventory slots.
How to get the Pilgrim:
- Purchased at the Construction Research Station on the Space Anomalyfor 10 Salvaged Data.
- The Pilgrim requires Metal Plating, Ion Batteries, and Paraffinium for its Geobay.
The Pilgrim is mostly used to have races and to tear across huge landmasses. Like the Nomad it can be used as a recon vehicle, although it doesn't have the inventory space to be useful for much else.
General tips for the Pilgrim:
- This Exocraft is best with speed boost modules, commonly used by players as a racing vehicle
- Can be upgraded with the laser cannon for hunting and resource collection, although its small inventory makes this a bit trickier
- Upgrades should follow a similar pattern as the Nomad, so with a focus on scanning or suspension depending on your use for the Exocraft.
- You won't have enough for all the hazard protection upgrades
- Focus on either the cannon or mining laser, not both.
The Colossus
When this Exocraft was first released it was a bit of a joke. Way too big and lumbering to be useful for pretty much anything. After a few tweaks and patches, the Colossus is now a valuable asset in your fleet, acting as a huge mobile cargo unit with 42 slots for inventory and customization.
How to get the Colossus:
- Purchase the Colossus Geobay at the Construction Research Station on the Space Anomaly
- This costs 10 Salvaged Data
- The Colossus requires Metal Plating, Ion Batteries, and Paraffinium for its Geobay.
This Exocraft comes pre-built with an Exocraft Mining Laser, making it a good choice for mining expeditions. You'll need a Colossus if you want to make lots of money in No Man's Sky. With multiple upgrades available in its numerous slots, you can turn this lumbering vehicle into a bit of a beast, with decent speed and agility.
Tips for the Colossus:
- This Exocraft is a tank, literally, and with loads of room for upgrades it can be turned into a very capable vehicle.
- Ideal for resource runs, i.e scouting across the surface of the planet using the laser to collect resources.
- It is a bit tricky to collect resources because of the sheer size of the Colossus, positioning it properly is... quite hard work.
- You can attach loads of upgrades to the Colossus and still have plenty of room for materials.
- The Colossus is extremely slow while in the water.
The Minotaur
The Minotaur is a massive mechanical walker used to traverse the landscapes of No Man's Sky in terrifying style. It comes with an awesome jetpack that lets the player jump from place to place.
How to get the Minotaur:
- The blueprint for the Minotaur is available to purchase at the Construction. Research Station for 10 Salvaged Data.
- The Minotaur requires Metal Plating, Ion Batteries, and Paraffinium for its Geobay.
This is probably the most enjoyable Exocraft. Out of all the best space exploration games, No Man's Sky has hit the nail on the head with the Minotaur.
This Exocraft is immune to planetary hazards (only needs one hazard protection upgrade compared to other Exocraft's four) and can collect resources with its mining laser, which can later be upgraded to a Minotaur Bore, allowing this two-legged machine to dig straight into the earth and manipulate terrain freely. It can go underwater, mine underwater, and has the capability to fire missiles.
Tips for the Minotaur:
- The Minotaur Bore is probably the best upgrade for the Exocraft and lets you manipulate the terrain.
- The Exocraft basically operates as an extension of your character, so it's quite easy to get used to how to handle the craft.
- With upgrades to the jetpack, the Minotaur becomes one of the fastest Exocraft over all terrain types.
- The Minotaur is very effective for tackling Sentinels.
- Its short-range scanner is very effective for finding nearby Points of Interest, like Crashed Ships.
The Nautilon
The Nautilon is a fully submersible Exocraft for underwater exploration, combat, and resource harvesting. It can be summoned to an ocean and docked at any of your underwater bases. This craft was introduced in The Abyss update, alongside the new underwater biomes.
How to get the Nautilon:
- This Exocraft is first available during the Dreams of the Deep mission, later purchased at the Construction Research Station on the Space Anomaly.
- Like the other Exocraft, its blueprint costs 10 Salvaged Data.
- Its Chamber (different from a Geobay) requires Metal Plating, Crystal Sulphide, and Salt to craft.
It can be upgraded with different types of submarine technology, including Propulsion, Resource Collection, and combat. The Nautilon Cannon, for example, launches projectiles underwater, probably one of the coolest weapons in No Man's Sky. Its Sonar scanner is used to scan for sunken ships and other underwater features, like submerged ruins and sunken buildings.
Tips for the Nautilon:
- Has 28 inventory slots, which is enough for upgrades and resource collection
- The Nautilon Chamber must be built in water.
- The Nautilon has some unique upgrades, like the Humboldt Drive and the Osmotic Generator.
- Because of its unique engine (the Humboldt Drive) the Nautilon requires Hydrothermal Fuel Cells to operate.
